Regulations for using Satelite phones in India



As per existing Guidelines issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, satellite telephone services are permitted in India only with proper license. Unauthorized use of satellite telephone handsets of Thuraya, Iridium and other such satellite operators is a violation of rules and satellite phones brought in baggage/hand baggage without the necessary license issued by Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, can be detained / confiscated, as per existing procedures. Any unauthorized person, who is found in possession of handsets of Thuraya, Iridium and other operators, can be prosecuted under Section 6 of Indian Wireless Act and Section 20 of Indian Telegraph Act.
