Visa Services
All foreign nationals, including children, require a visa to enter India. Please do not finalize your travel arrangements to India before ascertaining the visa requirements.

The Consulate General of India, Johannesburg issues visas for South African nationals residing in Gauteng, North West Province, Limpopo, Western Cape, Mpumalanga and Northern Cape. The South Africans residing in other provinces should apply at Indian Consulate in Durban.

South African passport holders are entitled to a free visa. Other passport holders should visit the Visa Fee section to ascertain the fee applicable to them.

All foreign visitors to India, holding any category of visa, are required to compulsorily register with Foreigners Registeration Office (FRO/FRRO), if their continuous stay in India exceeds 180 days. They are required to register with the FRO/FRRO within 14 days of first arrival only. This registration is required during the first visit after the visa is issued. Subsequent travels using the same visa do not require registration. Children below the age of 16 years are exempt from this requirement.

Working Hours
Application forms for the passport services can be submitted to the Consulates General of India on working days between 0900 and 1200 hours. Passports can be collected on working days between 1500 and 1630 hrs.”

The Consulate visits its postal box only once a week and therefore there could be inordinate delays in processing visa applications received through postal box. The Consulate does not entertain any telephonic queries on the status of passports and would also not be held responsible for any delays in its receipt and processing. Applicants are thus advised to apply well in advance to void last minute disappoints."
