THE INDIGO STORY

An Exhibition of Indigo Textiles & Crafts

Anjana Somany
Curator’s note:

My journey in the crafts sector has spanned almost twenty years now and I continue to train in this field, often working on location with craft communities. My love and weakness for textiles helped add to my experience, resulting in a data bank within my head.  Armed with a diploma in textile designing, my quest to learn more, made me take  additional courses on the subject. Exposure to more workshops and seminars further increased my passion. My willingness to share helped me reach a position of advantage. In the world of textiles, 'natural dyes' has become a buzz word. I discovered the magic of Indigo! Attempts at entrepreneurship fulfills me only if it benefits craftspersons. This makes me a kind of 'social entrepreneur'. Organizing 'Study tours', 'Events and Workshops' with children are the other hats I wear. Each of these education related activities involves research for a script or publication. This helped in this project as well. My commitment and attention for detail may have prompted Sanjoy at Teamwork Films to invite me to curate this exhibition- 'Indigo The Magical Dye'.

Hope you enjoy viewing it as much as I have enjoyed putting it together!
