i) All Indian passport holders are requested to register with Indian missions especially when they are on a long term residence visa/ work permit.
ii) Indian nationals obtaining foreign nationality should surrender their Indian passports and obtain a surrender certificate.
iii) All the passport forms and those required for various consular services can be obtained free of charge from the Consulate or downloaded from the web.
iv) All passports are printed in India and therefore it normally takes 30 days to issue new passports and booklets.
v)For any clarification send an e mail to vccons@indiaconjoburg.co.za and we will try to respond as soon as possible. Telephone calls should be avoided.
vi) The passport and consular fee can be paid at the counters only in cash.
In case the application is submitted through mail/courier, fee can be paid by attaching the Bank Draft of appropriate fee payable to `Consulate General of India, Johannesburg or Durban, depending where the application is filed or through bank transfer to the below mentioned bank account, if the application is filed at Johannesburg.

APPLICATION BY POST
Normally the applicants are advised to file the application in person at the Consulate. However, those not resident in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban could submit the application through mail. Applicants are encouraged to use a courier service instead of sending through normal post. However, the Consulate does not take the responsibility for safe delivery of application, passports and the documents or delays in processing. Please ensure to send valid passport, correct fee, and requisite documents and photograph. Also indicate the mode of collection of passport. If the services passport is to be handed over to a courier service, give its details and also an authorization letter in its favour. Should the applicant desire the passport to be mailed, make sure to enclose appropriate sized, self addressed envelope, with correct amount of postal stamps affixed on it.
Delivery of Passport
The date of delivery of passport is indicated on the receipt fee at the time of submission of application.
Passport can be collected through an agent who should produce his ID on demand and produce an authorization letter from the applicant.
Applicants are advised to avoid contacting the Consulate on phone to ascertain the status of their applications or the safe delivery of passports at the consulate.
For seeking any clarification, applicants are encouraged to serf the website indiainsouthafrica.com or send an email to vccons@indiconjoburg.co.za instead of approaching the Consulate on phone. The visa related queries are generally not answered on phone as the visa personnel are busy processing applications. Every effort however is made to reply to an email query at the earliest.
vii) Documentations required for various passport services are listed below:-
A. Renewal of Passports and Additional Booklet
i) Prescribed application form, duly filled in.
ii) Four passport-sized coloured photographs.
iii) Fee of R480/ for an ordinary passport / R660/ for a jumbo booklet.
iv) Old passport and a copy of the same.
v) Proof of residence in India if different from that on the existing passport and also the proof of residence in South Africa
B. Issue of Children Passport
i) Prescribed application form, duly filled in
ii) Fee of R300.00
iii) Four passport sized coloured photographs.
iv) Parents should remember to sign the declaration at the indicated space in the form.
v) In case of infants, thumb impression should be affixed within the box at page 7 serial 29 of the form.
vi) Photocopies of parents passport and their original passports should be submitted with the application form.
vii) Original Birth certificate and its copy.
viii) Normally 5 years validity passport is provided.
C. Issue of Lost Passport
i) Prescribed application form, duly filled in
ii) Photocopy of the lost passport.
iii) Copy of the police complaint, lodged at the local Police Station.
iv) Four coloured photographs.
v) A fee of R1500.00
vi) Duplicate passport is issued after clearance from the PIA which may take a month.
vii) The applicant should meet the Consular Officer.
D. Damaged Passport
i) Prescribed application form, duly filled in
ii) Original passport and a copy of the same.
iii) Four passport sized coloured photographs.
iv) A fee of R1500.00
v) The passport is issued after clearance from the PIA which may take a month.
vi) The applicant should meet the Consular Officer.
E. Emergency Certificate
Emergency certificates are issued to Indian nationals who are without a travel documents, and do not wish to return to South Africa.
i) Prescribed application form, duly filled in
ii) Copy of lost passport or proof of Indian citizenship such as Ration card/ school iii)certificate/ Voters ID etc.
iv) Copy of police report for loss of passport.
v) The applicant should meet the Consular Officer.
vi) Fee of R60.00
F. ECNR
i) ECNR is issued to following category of persons:-
ii) Prescribed application form, duly filled in
iii) Graduate
iv) Income tax payer in India.
v) Spouse or children of ECNR holder resident in South Africa
vi) Fee of R120.00
G. Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)
PCC is issued by the Consulate to those who are applying for work
permit and residential visas. It is issued on the bases of verification
obtained from Passport Issuing Authority.
i) Prescribed application form, duly filled in.
ii) One photograph
iii) Passport and its copy
iv) Fee of R240.00.
H. Birth Certificate
i) Prescribed application form, duly filled in
ii) Passport and its copy
iii) Fee R240.00
iv) One photograph
I. Death Certificate
i) A plain paper application by next of kin requesting for death certificate.
ii) Death certificate issued by the Hospital/ Department of Home Affairs and its copy.
iii) Two photograph of the deceased (dead body) if being sent to India for last rites.
iv) Passport of the deceased along with its photocopy.
v) If a person has been cremated in South Africa, cremation certificate from local authorities.
vi) The Consulate also issues a no objection certificate and a certificate to Customs and Immigration in India to clear the dead body, if it has to be taken to India.
vii) No fee is charged for any death related documentation.
J. Drivers License
i) Prescribed application form, duly filled in
ii) Fee R240.00
iii) Copy of drivers license issued in India and
iv) passport and its copy.
K. Attestation of Legal documents of Indian nationals
The documents like sworn affidavit/ declaration are attested by the Consulate. The individuals should appear in person at the Consulate and sign in presence of Consular Officer with original passport.
a) Fee for Power of Attorney R240.00
b) Signature attestation for a seen and attested endorsement R240.00
c) Photocopy attestation R120.00
(Note: The educational certificates from India are attested provided they are notarized and attested by the Department of Home Affairs or the respective Indian States and then by Ministry of Human Resources Development and Consular wing of the Foreign Ministry in India. South African nationals desirous of getting the documents/certificates attested by the Consulate, should first get their documents attested by an Oath Commissioner, the Department of Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs of South Africa.)
L. People of Indian Origin (PIO) Card
i) Duly filled in application form
ii) Two coloured photographs
iii) Fee of R3000/ for adults and R1500/ for a child.
iv) South African Passport and ID. Attach their copy to the application form.
v) Proof of Indian origin
vi) The PIO card is valid for 15 years.
M. Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI)/ card

vii) Duly filled in application form
viii) Two coloured photographs
ix) The fee is R1835.00. In case, an applicant already holds a PIO card, only R170/ will be charged.
x) South African Passport and ID. Attach their copy to the application form.
xi) Proof of Indian origin
xii) The OCI card is valid for life.
Note:- PIO and OCI cards are not passports. While traveling to India always carry the passport along with the OCI / PIO card.
Registration with FRRO is mandatory, if the card holder intends to stay in India for more than 180 days.
Indian origin people residing in Pakistan and Bangladesh are not eligible for the card. The card holders are eligible to facilities like purchasing property or a house in India, school/ university education facilities in India for their children etc. They can also apply for housing schemes sponsored by the state Governments.
