Born on 9th April 1969 at Delhi in India, Mr. Mridul Kumar is a Career Diplomat who has been working in Ministry of External Affairs since October 1992.
He has varied experience of diplomatic assignments having served in Indian Missions in Cairo, Egypt (1994-1996), Rabat, Morocco (1996-1999) and London, the UK (2002-2005) and currently in Cape Town, South Africa ( since June 2009). At Headquarters, he has worked in the United Nations Division (1999-2000) and Europe West Division(2001-2002) and has served as the Deputy Chief of Protocol(Ceremonial) (2005-2007) and then as the Chef de cabinet in the office of Minister of State for External Affairs (2007- May 2009);
Mr. Kumar did his schooling from Delhi and graduated from Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi University in 1990 in Electronics and Communications with distinction. He also attended short-term Management course from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore in 1993. He did a diploma Course from Balliol College, Oxford University in Foreign Service Programme (2000-2001) with merit.

Prior to the Foreign Service, Mr Kumar worked briefly as probationary officer in the Indian Railways (Signals and Telecommunication) (from February-September, 1992).
Mr. Kumar speaks Hindi, English and Arabic. He is married to Mrs. Sumita Goyal and they have two daughters (12 and 10 years old). His other interests include Trekking, cricket and Indian music and reading. |
